Malawi flag 300

Malawi’s President Joyce Banda, is taking a huge step in the right direction by proposing that laws criminalizing homosexuality be stricken from the constitution. If this law is repealed, Malawi would be the first African country to do so in 18 years (South Africa overturned their anti-gay laws in 1994). Let’s hope she gets the majority required.

More on this here

Ironically, the last time Malawi was in the spotlight on LGBT issues was for sentencing a same-sex couple who had an engagement ceremony to 14 years in prison, a move that was denounced worldwide ( they were later pardoned).

I’ve been hearing good things about Joyce Banda. This is a great news. I hope she helps set a trend for a more acceptance.

That’s what were all hoping for.
Currently there has been a lot of talk about being gay not being so bad (this is a BIG step forward). The recent string of gay-bashing hasn’t helped the anti-gay movement either
